October 29 UAE launches KhalifaSat satellite

The UAE launches KhalifaSat satellite into space.

Dubai, UAE. The historic launch of the Emirate Earth satellite, called KhalifaSat, will take place on October 29, the Muhammad bin Rashid Space Research Center in Dubai said.

Currently, the satellite is already on the launch platform on the Japanese island of Tanegashima. The launch will be carried out on October 29, at 08.00 Dubai time. Live streaming of the launch will be available at mbrsc.ae/khalifasat.

The satellite was created by a team of 70 emirate engineers, 10 of them are already in Japan and will monitor the launch from the command center. The satellite’s task is to collect valuable information about the state of the environment, including the global warming process. So, the satellite will take pictures of glaciers at the South and North poles.

It is worth recalling that the Emirate Committee on Science and Technology (EIAST) launched the DubaiSat-1 satellite in 2009 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome, and in 2013 DubaiSat-2 from the Russian Yasny Strategic Missile Forces. Both satellites were created in South Korea. KhalifaSat satellite was created in the UAE.
