British Airways cancels flights from Abu Dhabi to London during Ramadan

British Airways has canceled a dozen direct flights from Abu Dhabi to London earlier this month of Ramadan.

The British Airways international airline canceled a number of direct flights on the Abu Dhabi - London route. Cancellations will begin next week and will last the first week of June. Presumably, the reason for the cancellation of flights was the problem with the Rolls Royce engines on Boeing 787 Dreamliners, which led to their temporary decommissioning.

The airline’s website informs the passengers of the following: “Unfortunately, there are no direct flights on this route” - the dates are May 16 and June 6.

British Airways offers an alternative route with a change in Bahrain, but such a flight will cost almost three times as much.

According to the airline’s website, a direct flight to London on June 5 would cost 1238 AED economy class at Heathrow.

June 6 and other dates when direct flights will be suspended, a flight through Bahrain will cost 7,000 dirhams. In May there are six such dates.

A British Airways booking agent in Abu Dhabi could only say that flights were canceled for "operational reasons."

These changes do not apply to direct flights from Dubai. British Airways mainly operates the Dreamliner on the Abu Dhabi route, with a total of 26 such aircraft.

The 787 had some problems with turbine corrosion on Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines used by a number of airlines.

This week it was reported that British Airways plans to lease three aircraft from Qatar Airways to fill the gaps associated with Dreamliner. Willy Walsh, executive director of IAG, the parent company of British Airways, warned that "some" Dreamliner airplanes will not fly in May, June and July.

Saj Ahmad, chief analyst at Strategic Aero Research, said the move was temporary and that the route from Abu Dhabi is one of the most profitable for the airline.
