Dubai fruit and vegetable market awaits major reconstruction

The market for fruits and vegetables in Dubai will be modernized to meet all the needs for the supply, export, sale, distribution and import of products.

Dubai Municipality Announces Reconstruction of Fruit and Vegetable Market in Al Warsan The cost of the work is estimated at 400 million dirhams ($ 109 million).

The aim of the project is to satisfy all the needs for the supply, export, sale, distribution and import of fruits and vegetables in the market.

Khalid Muhammad Sharif Al Avadhi, Assistant Director-General for Environment and Public Health in the Municipality, said that a committee had been set up to solve the problem. The municipality held meetings with suppliers to discuss the current difficulties they face in the market to solve them during the repair.

Juma Al Fuke, director of the municipality’s asset management department, said the modernization would provide large areas for loading and unloading goods, parking for trucks and safer food distribution at a controlled temperature. The renewed market will also offer specialized tracks for cars, bicycles and pedestrians.

"We will also divide the tracks between trucks and other cars. Our plan is to ensure uninterrupted traffic outside and inside the market and provide underground waste containers," Al Fuke said.
