Oman is a familiar stranger

The Royal Crown Tourism Travel Company celebrated its first birthday in October 2005. We asked its director Eduard Mikhailovich Petrosyan to answer several questions.

Tell us how you plan to expand the geography of your offers. In our opinion, Oman has a number of competitive advantages. The hotels of this state offer a fairly high level of service at affordable prices. Oman is an extremely picturesque country with diverse natural resources: mountains, dazzling waterfalls, impressive deserts and dunes, green oases and sandy beaches.

What do you recommend visiting in Oman first?Of course, Muscat. The name of the capital of the country translates as "place of fall", and this is no accident. Just imagine: the picturesque cliffs abruptly break to the sea, covering the city from all sides with a natural fortified wall. The old waterfront is famous for the Sultan's palace and magnificent observation deck. In the Matrah district, that is, in the commercial and residential part of the city, there is the most interesting bazaar of Arabia.

Museums of the capital deserve special attention: the Omani Museum with a good historical exposition, the Natural History Museum in the building of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, the Beit-France Museum, the Omani Museum of Life in Fort Jalali, the Beit al-Zubeir Historical Museum (private collection of the Zubeir family) , National Museum (Al-Mathaf al-Huatani), Military Museum at Fort Beit Al-Falaj, Museum of Natural History. And, of course, the child’s museum, or rather, a huge entertainment and educational complex for children.

Emirates as a tourist destination is already well known throughout the world. The main advantages of the UAE are warm weather, a high level of service, safety, and rich entertainment opportunities: water parks, night clubs ... What can make tourists go to Oman too?Spectacular landscape, which you will not find in any other Arab country. The arid areas of northern Jebel, the green pastures of Dofar, the sandy sea of Rub al-Khali, the salt plateaus of Umm al-Sami, the dust and stones of Jeddat al-Hararis are unique ... Oman can be combined with a vacation in the UAE: after all, the distance between Dubai and Muscat only 400 km, which can easily be overcome with a comfortable car or plane. An interesting idea is to complement the rest in the Emirates with a cruise Oman-Bahrain-Qatar, allowing you to see several Arab countries in one trip.

If you had to write the “Book of Records of Oman”, what would you include there?I would mention in it that in Muscat there are the highest lampposts in the world (63.5 m) and that the largest river of the Arabian Peninsula, the Wadi Dyke, flows through Oman. In the mountains of Hoshilat Makandeli lies the cave of the Majlis al-Jinn ("Council of the genies"), considered one of the largest in the world. And the inscriptions on the stone seals found in Ras al-Dzhuneys are the oldest writing in the Persian Gulf ...

In a word, do you recommend that we take a closer look at the UAE’s neighbor, that is, the Sultanate of Oman?Of course. ... Very often, we strive for new experiences in the distant distance, although they are close - you just have to take a fresh look at what surrounds us.
