Tori, how did you come up with the idea of ​​creating your own brand of clothing?

Tori: I decided to open a company, because I personally felt a lack of things in my wardrobe: for example, beautiful, well-made clothes, the price of which would not be affordable. I thought that other women probably had a similar problem. I began to collect photographs, magazine clippings, and fabric samples. Gradually, the concept of my brand began to take on a sharper outline.

Have you always wanted to become just a designer?

Tori: Actually, as a kid, I really wanted to be a veterinarian or psychiatrist. But in my youth, while studying in college, I began to study art history. By the way, I began to study design professionally, only becoming a fashion designer.

Which designer inspires you?

Tori: I like a lot, but I think Yves Saint Laurent is one of the best.

Describe your own style.

Tori: My clothing style is eclectic. This is a mix of a feminine image and a tomboy girl, classics and modernity. I love to combine unexpected colors and contrasting prints.

Did your business have experience working with such eminent designers as Ralph Lauren, Vera Wong or Narciso Rodriguez?

Tori: I have been working in the fashion industry for over 15 years. And before creating the Tory Burch brand, I studied how marketing, branding and storytelling work in Ralph Lauren. With Vera Wong, I saw how a small company with one line can grow into something more. Narciso taught me exquisite design skills. I think I absorbed everything useful from each company where I worked. And this undoubtedly helps me in managing my business.

What is the aesthetic value for Tory Burch?

Tori: In our collections, we combine several different concepts. And so a new idea is created. Like my individual style, the brand is designed in a classic, modern, sophisticated and bohemian spirit.

How is the creative process going at Tory Burch?

Tori: The process begins with inspiration. From going to art galleries, watching world classics, enjoying good music, traveling, vintage photographs of my parents. These are all my starting points ... Origins.

How did your parents influence you?

Tori: My parents are a great source of inspiration. My design team and I often look at their old photographs of the 1960s and 1970s, the period of their travels to Morocco, Italy and Greece. They are the most stylish couple I know.

Your fall-winter collection is simply gorgeous! You obviously extracted all these colors and moods from the stores of Gustave Klimt and Rene Lalique.

Tori: It’s just that I often went to my favorite New Gallery in New York. This is a museum of German and Austrian art at the beginning of the 20th century. And of course, I could not help but linger in front of the brush of Gustave Klimt and confident women on his canvases. Its colors and textures are a great motive for the collection. I also looked at the works of Rene Lalique. Therefore, the collection contains the spirit of romanticism, but with a hint of freedom, simplicity and smoothness of lines.

What iconic things can you point out?

Tori: Scarabs, bugs and dragonflies are always in a big trend. We created graphic prints with their images on blouses, t-shirts and bags, used them as decorative patterns on sweaters and silk skirts. These motifs are also present in accessories - appear on pendants and necklaces.

Fur will appeal to Russian women who value and love luxury. What else suits Russian beauties?

Tori: I think they will like my black coats decorated with sheared sheepskin fur. They give an image of personality and character. And they are incredibly warm. A two-sided Charla jacket is a luxurious and practical item for fall. It can be worn with soft fur outward - to give a vintage look. Or turn it into a trendy leather jacket.

How do you manage to combine work and family?

Tori: My children always come first. I try to find time for my family in the morning before work and in the evening, every minute counts - sometimes this is the time between business calls and meetings, just when I can give them a ride home.

What does the Tory Burch Foundation do?

Tori: We launched a project in 2009 in support of American women entrepreneurs. We have achieved excellent results, and I am so proud of our business women. I hope we can reach the international level in the future. Your brand is not the first year in the Middle East market. What are your plans for this region? Tori: I am shocked by our success. Emirate women have great taste, they understand quality. By the way, we opened a new boutique in Abu Dhabi!

Tory: The brand is growing, evolving, but will always stay within our price range.
