Abu Dhabi drivers reminded of fines for driving games

Motorists in the UAE capital were reminded of fines for playing on mobile phones while driving.

Abu Dhabi police warned motorists against playing on mobile phones while driving, recalling significant fines for violators.

At the same time, police officials recalled that traffic rules also prohibit drivers from texting, taking photos, eating and applying makeup.

The traffic authorities in the UAE consider the violation of the ban on the use of mobile phones a serious crime, for which a significant fine is provided. Statistics for the first quarter of 2018 showed that more than 12 thousand drivers were fined for using mobile phones while driving.

Road safety experts supported the warning, emphasizing that it was inattention that most often leads to accidents. “Using the phone distracts the driver and endangers passengers, pedestrians and other road users,” commented Thomas Edelmann, manager of Road Safety UAE.

He also added that it is games on mobile phones that are especially dangerous, since they combine all four factors, each of which can cause an emergency - the driver takes his eyes off the road, stops holding his hands on the steering wheel, is distracted from driving and stops listening to what happens on the road.
