UAE Emirates Offers Free Electric Vehicle Registration

For three years, registration of electric vehicles in one of the regions of the United Arab Emirates will not be charged.

The police of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, launched a campaign in support of environmental initiatives. Over the next three years, registration of electric vehicles in Ras Al Khaimah will be free.

Registration, renewal and transfer of ownership of electric vehicles are exempt from fees from October 1, 2018 to December 31, 2021.

This move was initiated at the direction of Sheikh Saud bin Sakra al-Qashimi, ruler of Ras Al Khaimah.

Major General Ali Al Nuaimi, the commander in chief of the police of Ras Al Khaimah, said that this initiative is a positive step towards the achievement by the emirate of goals in the field of energy conservation and environmental protection.

The campaign is in line with the emirate’s strategy to promote the use of renewable energy to reduce energy consumption by 30 percent by 2040.

Earlier this month, the municipality of Ras Al Khaimah announced a new program called “Barjeel,” which aims to reduce electricity and water consumption by 30 percent.
