Dispute between spouses about Dubai superyacht moves to Russian court

An oligarch from Russia hopes for a Russian court to participate in his conflict with his wife over a $ 500 million yacht moored in Dubai.

Russian oligarch Farhad Akhmedov has filed a new appeal to remove the arrest from his superyacht Luna worth $ US 500 million in Dubai. Recall, the arrest was imposed as a result of his legal dispute with his ex-wife - Tatyana Akhmedova.

The Dubai court upheld the decision of the London Supreme Court in April regarding a 115-meter yacht. The court of Great Britain decided to transfer it to Tatyana.

Akhmedov’s representative claims that the yacht cannot be transferred to the oligarch’s ex-wife in the shortest possible time. In addition, Akhmedov himself insists that the divorce issued in Moscow allows him to ignore court decisions made in the UK.

He expects the Russian courts to make a fair decision within the next two months.

The case was initially tried by the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC). Then there was information that the case should be considered by the local Sharia court, since this is a dispute between spouses.

The yacht was acquired by Akhmedov from Roman Abramovich in 2014. It is believed to be the 23rd largest luxury yacht in the world. It is served by a crew of 50 people, it has a spa, swimming pool and two helipads.

Akhmedov last month refused to pay his ex-wife $ 600 million awarded by a British court. His refusal to comply with a court decision may lead to the freezing of all assets.
