Ecos eco-hotel to be built in Dubai

An environmentally friendly and sustainable hotel will be built in Dubai by Expo 2020.

HMH - Hospitality Management Holding - has signed an agreement to manage its first hotel in the UAE under the ECOS brand. This is an environmentally friendly, high-tech facility, which will be located in Dubai South.

The opening of the 320-room ECOS Hotel in Al Furjan is timed to coincide with the start of the Dubai Expo 2020.

According to company representatives, the hotel aims at LEED certification, the most efficient in terms of resource consumption and paperless activities. In addition, HMH is currently considering installing solar panels.

Speaking to the media at the Arabian Travel Market in Dubai, Brett Schaefer, CEO of Faisal Holding, who owns HMH with Manafa, said: "He will have all the latest technology and, of course, energy sustainability."

Schafer said that the location of the hotel was chosen in accordance with the upcoming Expo 2020 and the large-scale development of Dubai.

"The hotel will be located next to the new Expo venue, as well as the Dubai World Central," he said. "We see huge demand in the area."

Abudi Asali, Managing Director of HMH, said the hotel is also aimed at travelers looking for accommodation in the mid-price market segment while staying in Dubai.

The company is in the final planning stage and hopes to begin construction within the next three months.
