Old trucks in the UAE will be equipped with "smart" systems

In Dubai, 5,000 trucks were equipped with intelligent monitoring devices for safety reasons.

Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has confirmed that more than 5,000 heavy vehicles were equipped with smart controls that remotely detect errors and monitor driving habits.

The service, which was launched by the recently opened Vehicle Safety Center in the Jebel Ali Free Zone, has become mandatory for trucks that have been in operation for over 20 years.

RTA CEO and Chairman Mattar Al Thayer announced the launch of the first phase of the mandatory implementation of the Vehicle Safety System last year.

The system includes the installation of monitoring devices so that RTA staff at the monitoring center can monitor driver behavior. To ensure safety and prevent delinquency, they will contact the Dubai police and the RTA, if necessary.

“Truck-mounted devices are associated with the Smart Monitoring Center RTA,” said Mohammed Nabhan, monitoring director at the RTA Licensing Agency, “The service, which is part of the RTA projects in support of the Smart City initiative, conducts remote monitoring of heavy truck drivers, to ensure compliance with traffic rules and to identify malfunctions that may occur with vehicles on the road. Accordingly, this will increase road safety and save lives and property. "

The next trucks that have been in operation for over 20 years will be vehicles that have served for 15 years, and in August 2019, the program will affect heavy trucks that have been in operation for 10 years or less.

Devices will be able to detect collisions, driving without a license, speeding, sudden braking, driving in areas where it is forbidden, prolonged driving, dangerous acceleration, sudden maneuvers and tipping of the vehicle.
