Interesting occupation - occupy the words

NO SECRET FOR ANYONE THAT FOREIGN WORDS ARE PRESENT IN EVERY LANGUAGE. THESE WORDS ARE BORROWED BY PEOPLE FROM OTHER PEOPLES DIFFERENT PERIODS OF HISTORY. BY MANY WORDS, IT IS POSSIBLE TO JUDGE ABOUT WHY THEY HAVE GOTTEN THAT OR ANOTHER LANGUAGE. MORE THAN, THE WORDS ARE SERVING AN ADDITIONAL BASIS OF EVIDENCE TO HISTORICAL FACTS, WHICH, AS KNOWN, DO NOT DISPUT.

The fact is that Arabs, as before, are now skilled traders. Take, for example, words such as: shop, grocery, halva, diamond, emerald, chest, barn, parrot, alcohol, ottoman, dagger. They are united by one important factor - they all got into the Russian language from Arabic.

Diamond (from the Arabic "almas" or "masses") and emerald (from the Arabic "zumurrud") were an excellent product that did not take up much space, but cost crazy money and brought fabulous profits. Halva (from the Arabic "halva" - sweets) and sorbet (from the Arabic "shurba" - drink, soup) were of great price. The places where it was all sold and stored had corresponding names: a store (from the Arabic "makhzan"), groceries (from the Arabic "bakal"), a chest (from the Arabic "chest" - a box), a barn (from the Arabic "anbar" - a warehouse )

merchants, traveling on trade routes, used maps, both terrain and climate, and carried with them an atlas (from the Arabic “atlas”), as well as an almanac (from the Arabic “munakh” - climate). During long crossings, they rested on the ottoman (from the Arabic "ottomans"), studying the canons (from the Arabic "eve" - the law) of those places through which they passed and stopped.

The word alcohol, oddly enough, is also of Arab origin (from the Arabic "kuhul"). Arabs invented it, noting the use of alcohol-containing liquids in a pleasant and traditional production for the East - the manufacture of perfumes. With the use of alcohol, Arabs made perfumes and incense.

Subsequently, it turned out that he also has a side effect - intoxicating a person. Currently, almost all of humanity uses the side effect of this product as the main, and the main, as an additional. Arabs made their contribution to the exact sciences. For example, algebra (from the Arabic "al-jibra", in the Egyptian dialect "al-jibra") owes its name and birth to the Arab mathematician Al Jibra. Not only Russian, but all world science pays tribute to the Arabs for the appearance of Arabic numerals (from the Arabic "number" - zero).

It is interesting, by the way, that today the whole world uses Arabic numbers, while the Arabs themselves are Indian. Of course, many people know about the damask dagger (from the Arabic "khanjar").

"I love you, damask my dagger,
Comrade light and cold. "

These lines belong to Mikhail Yurievich Lermontov, who knew a lot about weapons. They most closely fit the descriptions of the best qualities of cold steel made from Damascus steel, the secret of which was irretrievably lost. Collectors who have weapons of this steel in their collections are the lucky owners of extremely strong clicks that can cut even the finest fabrics and metals equally, and most importantly, amazingly beautiful, which are true works of art. In addition, such weapons today can be considered the most profitable investment.

The priceless gift was presented by the Arabs to Russian literature. The real treasure for the Russian language was another great Russian poet of all time - Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, who was a direct descendant of Arap Peter the Great - Hannibal Pushkin. There is still much to be said about the contribution of the Arab peoples to the development of medicine, astronomy, and other natural sciences, but, having started this short narrative with borrowed words, we just wanted to remind everyone once again that, being in the Emirates, we are free or not we use a lot of Arabic words in our everyday speech.

So can we assume that we are foreigners here? Or maybe it makes sense to finish up a couple of hundred Arabic words and phrases in order to feel at home in a foreign country?

There is something to think about.
