UAE approved draft law on domestic workers

A draft federal law was approved in the United Arab Emirates governing the relationship between domestic workers and employers.

The Federal National Council (FNS) of the UAE approved the draft federal law on domestic workers.

The FTS emphasized the importance of the bill in organizing relations between employers, employees and the bureau.

Official comments indicate that the draft law will include legal principles and provisions that take into account international conventions and agreements ratified by the country.

The proposed legislation guarantees that 750 thousand people working in the homes of residents of the country have the right to a weekly day off, 30 days of annual paid leave, the right to keep personal documents, including a passport, and daily rest for at least 12 hours, including eight consecutive hours .

The bill also extends to protection against physical and verbal forms of sexual violence, human trafficking and forced labor.

The proposed bill appeared due to concerns of some foreign diplomats.
