The Dubai Government will green the Shaikh Zayed Road all the way to the border with Abu Dhabi

Trees, shrubs and flowers will decorate the lawns along the Shaikh Zayed Road, right up to the border with the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

According to official sources, thousands of trees and shrubs will decorate the high-end Shaikh Zayed Road on the stretch from the fifth interchange to the border with Abu Dhabi.

At the moment, most of Dubai's main highway is already framed by green spaces. The new landscape project, which includes landscaping of interchanges, will provide vegetation to the entire route up to the border with Abu Dhabi. The completion of the project, carried out in stages, is expected by the end of this year.

The purpose of landscaping and landscaping of roads is not so much aesthetics as ensuring the safety of road communication, as a green fence of trees and bushes prevents falling asleep with sand. In addition, green spaces help reduce the harmful effects of exhaust fumes. Landscaping will be carried out in the area between interchanges 5.5 and 7, which covers an area of 20 hectares. This part of the project, the cost of which is UAE 13 million (US $ 3,561,645), includes the construction of water tanks, pumps and the laying of primary and secondary water channels 6.5 and 21 km long, respectively.

Site readiness is scheduled for late August 2015. The second part of the project, which will be implemented between the eighth roundabout and the border with Abu Dhabi, will be completed by early September. The work includes planting 5,000 trees and 17,000 bushes on a 12-km stretch. The total project cost is estimated at 14 million UAE dirhams (US $ 3,835,614).
