Clive Christian LOVE IS IN THE AIR

A GOOD PERFUME MAY BE PURCHASED BY ANYONE PLEASANT - MOST IMPORTANT TO LIKE THE FRAGRANCE. BUT TO BUY SPIRITS FROM CLIVE CHRISTIAN, YOU SHOULD BE REALLY ATTRACTED BY THE WORLD OF AROMAS AND UNDERSTAND AS QUALITY - BECAUSE THEY ARE POSSIBLE TO INFLUENCE YOUR LIFESTYLE. WELL, OR YOU SHOULD MAKE A LIFESTYLE THAT WILL LEAD YOU TO THE MOST EXPENSIVE SPIRITS IN THE WORLD.

We met with Victoria Christian, a longtime friend of our magazine and brand ambassador Clive Christian, in Dubai after her honeymoon. Charming, cheerful, with a radiant smile, Victoria flew in to present new perfumes from the private collection of Clive Christian - L. Fresh floral-fruit perfume with aromas of damask rose and jasmine dizzy and in all its shades inspired only one state - love!

Victoria, so L is love?

Victoria: Yes, this is love - that ingredient, without which they will not blossom, no relationship will develop. Love cannot be felt, it cannot be seen or touched, but it is precisely it that holds everything together and gives everything a meaning. By the way, in this fragrance we moved away from the usual Clive Christian compositions and added a little freshness.

In a private collection from Clive Christian there are already perfumes C (Clive), V (Victoria), now L. Can we assume that in the future there will be I and E? This will be the name of Clive.

Victoria: (Laughs.) Perhaps, although we always try to give our names other meanings. For example, according to the Roman calendar, C is 100, L is 50, and V is 5. Did you know about this? So it can be interpreted in different ways.

It's no secret that all the lines of your fragrances are paired. How was this tradition born?

Victoria: We do not divide our perfumes strictly into men's and women's - they are always produced in pairs in order to complement each other. This is a tribute to Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, who were very close to each other and shared many hobbies - classical music, literature and a passion for expensive perfumes. Special aromas were produced for them at the court factory, and subsequently my father Clive Christian acquired this company, deciding to revive the royal traditions in perfumery. And although the scents come in pairs, there is no strict separation between the male and female scents - everyone can use the scent that he likes best.

By the way, why did your father Clive Christian, the founder of the company for the design of luxury interiors, decide to do perfumery?

Victoria: Clive is primarily a designer and artist. Here we are now sitting at the Armani hotel in Bourge Khalifa. All rooms have everything from Armani - towels, soap, scents, candles. Although initially Armani is a fashion brand of clothing. The same is with my father - he has his own point of view on what style, luxury and beauty are. At one time, he was not satisfied with what he could find on the market for interior items, so he began to develop a design himself. He began to produce things that met his needs and ideas about the perfect interior, and now we have 20 offices around the world, including the Harrods department store.

So, the perfume was a continuation of his search for perfection?

Victoria: Spirits themselves were created 140 years ago in one of the few perfume companies that received their own emblem directly from the hands of Queen Victoria.

  • L for Men Clive Christian
Woody spicy aroma. Top notes: grapefruit and petite grape; middle notes are agar tree and rose; base: vetiver, satin cedar, zero balm and musk
  • L for Women Clive Christian Floral-fruity fragrance. Top notes: artemisia, pink pepper, black pepper and white pepper; middle notes are damask rose and jasmine; base: vanilla, cedar, patchouli and vetiver

It was an old perfume factory that my father decided to revive. At that time, he was just looking for opportunities to prove himself in other areas, but I must say, then, 15 years ago, the perfume industry was very different from what it can be seen now. Today it is easy to find the whole range of expensive perfumes, and in those days the market of aromas was much more averaged. For Clive, reviving the luxury royal brand and making it the property of the British nobility became a matter of honor. He immediately took the highest bar, investing his whole philosophy in a new business. There were no boundaries for him - neither in price, nor in ingredients, nor in what others would think of him.

And so the most expensive perfumes in the world were created - Сlive Christian No. 1, listed in the Guinness Book of Records?

Victoria: Of course, initially the task of getting into the Guinness Book of Records was not for Clive, he just wanted to get a truly royal scent. “I want only the best,” he said. And Clive has a very high standard, believe me. He walked toward his goal, not looking back at anyone.

What ingredients are included in the most expensive fragrance in the world?

Victoria: The fact is that all the ingredients are kind of simple and familiar. Grapefruit, bergamot, sandalwood, mandarin, vetiver - but here is the way they are made ... We use the so-called "absolute extract" of any ingredients, which explains their high cost. You can find the essential oil quite cheaply, but getting the same oil through triple distillation and filtration is incredibly difficult, long and expensive. For example, in one small drop of pink essence contains 170 rose flowers. This is absolute concentration.

If a person using the Clive Christian perfume passes by, will you recognize them?

Victoria: Good question. Despite the fact that all our perfumes are concentrated, yet the fragrance itself sits closer to the skin. You will feel it closer, with a friendly kiss or hug, rather than a train. But when I feel a familiar scent on someone, I’m incredibly happy if they tell me later that it’s really Clive Christian.

In the American magazine Palm Beach, they even once wrote: "You know that you are at the best party in the city, if everyone exudes the scent of Clive Christian."

Victoria: Maybe because flavor affects lifestyle? Indeed, in order to choose your own fragrance, you need to have confidence in yourself. And confidence comes with a certain lifestyle and environment. As a rule, you begin to feel genuine self-confidence when you have a condition, and therefore, the ability to surround yourself with beautiful things. You stop paying attention to the opinions of others, but others look at you and listen to your opinion.
