Text: Natalia Remmer THE RUSSIAN LITERARY SALON IN DUBAI OPENED THE NEXT YEAR OF READING. NEW SEASON DEDICATED TO THE CREATIVITY OF THE GREAT RUSSIAN WRITER FEDOR DOSTOYEVSKY AND HIS ARTISTIC HERITAGE.
The first and only salon in the UAE, dedicated exclusively to Russian classical literature, was organized by a group of young Emirates - novice writers and passionate reading enthusiasts. “Russian literature is part of the global heritage, and today and tomorrow it will be as relevant and in demand as it was yesterday,” says the founder of the club, Mohammed Al Marzuki. “In addition, Russian writers have become pioneers in creating new genres: for example,“ psychological the novel "F. M. Dostoevsky," dramatic sketches "by A.P. Chekhov and the" magical realism "by M. A. Bulgakov. And for us, as novice writers, it is important to know this."
Over the past two years, salon participants have mastered a whole layer of works of Russian literature, including the "Captain's Daughter" A.S. Pushkin, "Hero of Our Time" M.Yu. Lermontov, "The Overcoat" N.V. Gogol, "Smoke" I.S. Turgenev, "Master and Margarita" M.A. Bulgakov, and a number of others. “Over the past year I have already managed to visit Moscow and St. Petersburg, where I went through the places of Dostoevsky and Tolstoy. After reading, we get together and discuss books. Unfortunately, we have to read a lot in English - there are no Arabic translations yet. We are helping to so that Arabic translators pay more attention to Russian literature, "said Muhammad Al Marzuki.
The third year of meetings is dedicated to the work of the great Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky. “Dostoevsky is one of the pillars of world literature,” says Marvan Al Balushi, a member of the club. “His work allows us to learn the Russian soul, culture and traditions, as well as get an idea of the origin of populism in Russia and the struggle of ideologies - conservative and liberal, the influence of Westernization and "finding our own development path. All these global questions are relevant now, in our part of the globe. And Russian literature allows us to find answers to them." The reading program for 2016 includes Notes from the Underground, Humiliated and Insulted, The Player, The Idiot, The Brothers Karamazov and Demons.
