In the United Arab Emirates prohibit per-minute billing of mobile Internet

The telecommunications regulator of the United Arab Emirates called on mobile operators to abandon tariffs with Internet charges for spent resources without notifying customers.

Telecommunications operators in the UAE will have to abandon tariff plans in which mobile Internet is paid based on the amount of resources used, according to the order of the Telecommunications Administration (TRA).

According to TRA, this is done to protect subscribers from overpaying for communication services. Now du and Etisalat will be able to provide such a service only if consumers themselves request it.

Previously, operators allowed using mobile Internet with per-minute billing without notifying subscribers. Because of this, some customers accumulated debts of hundreds of dirhams. Now, subscribers will be required to give informed consent to the connection of paid communication packages.
