Artificial Intelligence Helps Detain Over 300 Criminals in Dubai

Using an artificial intelligence system, Dubai police were able to arrest 319 crime suspects last year.

Thousands of surveillance cameras in Dubai using the Oyoon AI system helped arrest 319 suspects last year, First Lieutenant Ali Al Shehi from the Criminal Investigation Department said.

"The cameras helped arrest 319 suspects in various areas of Dubai using automatic face recognition technology," he explained during a presentation at the 12th International Symposium on Best Police Practices at the Intercontinental Hotel. Cameras can also identify license plates on cars.

Security cameras throughout the city broadcast live recordings to the Central Command Center. They monitor incidents in busy tourist areas, shops and on the roads. The police now have the ability to track criminals around the city by simply uploading their photos to the database.

Al Shehi said that the use of artificial intelligence and the latest technology will help to come to a future in which crimes are not committed at all.
