The Louvre Abu Dhabi will host a new exhibition "Arabian Roads"

The international exhibition "Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia" will be held in the Louvre Museum of Abu Dhabi.

Dubai, UAE. The second international exhibition in the museum’s new cultural season will be held in the Louvre Abu Dhabi entitled “Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia” - from November 8, 2018 to February 16, 2019.

The exposition is dedicated to the rich history of the Arabian Peninsula, which is reflected in archaeological finds and cultural artifacts, including a number of rare exhibits from the United Arab Emirates.

“The United Arab Emirates and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have always been connected by a common heritage and history,” said His Excellency Muhammad Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism of Abu Dhabi. "At the exhibition this year, the emphasis will be on the joint rich cultural heritage and history of the two states, rooted in the deep past."

The Arabian Roads: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia exhibit highlights five chapters in the history of the Arabian Peninsula, which include the era of early prehistoric settlements; history of navigation; trade routes of caravans connecting the region with Asia, Mesopotamia and the Mediterranean; pilgrimage routes to the shrines, drawn in the 7th century BC. e .; and socio-economic development in the period from the fourteenth to the sixteenth centuries, which laid the foundation for the formation of the modern region.

For the first time, important archaeological artifacts from the United Arab Emirates will be presented at the exhibition, including a pearl found in the territory of the emirate of Umm al-Quwain dating back to 5500-5300 BC. e. (temporarily provided for display by the Umm Al-Quwain Museum); stone at the end of the third millennium BC ad., decorated with the image of a wild camel (from the Museum of Al Ain), remarkable finds of the archaeological site of Saruk Al-Hadid, dating back to the first millennium BC. e. (provided for display by the municipality of Dubai), and exhibits from Julfa (provided by the National Museum of the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah).

The opening of the exhibition, the Louvre Abu Dhabi timed a three-day festival called "On the Roads of Arabia" - a creative performance including music, dance and poetry, which will bring together 80 artists and artists from the Arabian Peninsula, from Africa, the Mediterranean countries, the Indian Ocean, from India, Indonesia and China, as well as contemporary calligraphic street art performed by Tunisian artist Kuma.

The cultural program prepared for the exhibition “Roads of Arabia: Archaeological Treasures of Saudi Arabia” will also include a demonstration of films selected by the artist Hind Mezain, lectures by curators, as well as a series of educational seminars and guided tours related to the exhibition.
