Police in UAE recall fines of US $ 41 thousand for photographing

Abu Dhabi police recall fines of US $ 41 thousand for photographing and distributing photographs.

Dubai, UAE. Abu Dhabi police recall fines of 150 thousand dirhams (US $ 41 thousand) for photographing and sharing pictures taken on the scene of traffic accidents on social networks. Law enforcement officers argue that this "negative social phenomenon" can cause a tragedy, because ambulances cannot arrive on time at the scene of accidents due to onlookers and traffic congestion.

These actions fall under Article 21 of the UAE Cybercrime Law No. 5 of 2012 and qualify as interference in private life. The fines for this crime are from 150,000 to 500,000 dirhams (US $ 137 thousand), and imprisonment for up to 6 months is also provided.
