Dubai tap water recognized as potable

Dubai's tap water is safe and potable, DEWA said.

Dubai, UAE. Dubai's tap water is safe and potable, the Dubai Water Supply and Electrification Authority (DEWA) said.

This statement was made in response to the publication that the German International School, located in the Dubai International Academic City, was closed on Monday due to the detection of bacteria in the water that cause Legionellosis (an infectious disease characterized by severe pneumonia, fever and nephropathy) .

The Dubai municipality later denied this information, citing the fact that the employees received incorrect information from the parents of some students, and not from official representatives of the school. The department explained that there are no such bacteria in any of the schools in Dubai.

In turn, DEWA reported that drinking water fully complies with all WHO standards and is suitable for consumption. The agency took water samples from the plumbing system and transferred the results of the analyzes to the school management.

The agency also said that it ensures water quality until the "entrance to the house", while the owner of the building and management companies are responsible for the condition of internal networks and tanks.
