Dubai celebrates 73rd anniversary of Victory in World War II

On May 9, 2018, Dubai hosted the traditional celebration of Victory Day of the Soviet people in World War II.

On May 9, 2018, in Dubai, as in the previous few years, a gala evening, a gala concert and the Immortal Regiment action were held in honor of the anniversary of the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War.

Traditionally, the festive event gathers hundreds of guests, including representatives of numerous CIS diasporas in the United Arab Emirates.

Among the invited are heads and representatives of state, municipal and public structures of the UAE, heads of diplomatic missions of foreign countries, representatives of state companies and large business, employees of the embassies of the CIS countries in the UAE and representatives of the press.

The evening opened with a speech by Alexander Vladimirovich Efimov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the United Arab Emirates.

“We acutely feel what it means to be faithful to the Motherland. And how important it is to be able to defend its interests. The Great Patriotic War became an unprecedented test for all of our people. It went through the country as a terrible hurricane and left an unhealed trace in the lives of millions of people,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the veterans, who fell to the test of the Second World War.

"Everything must be done to prevent such tragedies in the future," said Alexander Vladimirovich and wished a clear, peaceful sky, good, mutual understanding and happiness to each family.

"Glory to the people of the winner! Happy Great Victory Day!", - with these words he concluded his speech.

After that, a minute of silence was announced in memory of the enormous price paid by the Soviet people for the Great Victory.

The floor was given to Dashgyn Mazy Ogly Shikarov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the United Arab Emirates.

"Every fifth resident of Azerbaijan fought with arms in the Great Patriotic War," he recalled, congratulating the audience, "During the war, Azerbaijan put about 80% of the oil produced in the USSR to the front."

Following on the stage was invited Roman Alexandrovich Golovchenko, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the United Arab Emirates. He called Victory Day the main, unifying holiday, a symbol of common history.

Roman Alexandrovich thanked the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Consulate General in Dubai, which organizes Victory Day celebrations from year to year.

Gegham Tiranovich Garibjanian, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the United Arab Emirates, made his speech. He noted that the new generation maintains traditions and honors the memory of fellow citizens who died during the war.

"I want to thank all of you, your ancestors for the fact that we were able to win the Great Patriotic War and preserve these traditions," Gegham Tiranovich proclaimed, also expressing gratitude to the organizers.

Kairat Lama Sharif, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Arab Emirates, is invited to the stage. In his speech, he noted that 500 Kazakhstanis became Heroes of the Soviet Union, more than 100 became full holders of the Order of Glory.

“However, time is passing inexorably, our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers are leaving, having great merits in history, having carried through their lives a true faith in patriotic ideals. We will never forget the exploits of our veterans and home front workers who made an invaluable contribution to the common victory. Today, in Dubai, we once again hold the peace campaign "Immortal Regiment" and say: "Eternal memory and glory to the victorious heroes."

Sharifi Bakhodur Mahmudzoda, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Arab Emirates, noted that the Victory is the result of friendship and joint struggle of peoples with a terrible threat, as well as "the highest manifestation of courage and courage of various nations in order to achieve freedom and peace."

"Celebrating Victory Day and honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the freedom of peoples is a sacred duty for each of us," he said.

Following this, they invited Sardar Mamit Karadzhaev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkmenistan to the United Arab Emirates.

“On this day we recall the names of those who forged victory for us on the battlefields of the Great Patriotic War and the labor front,” he said in his speech, “I am convinced that the best tribute to the fallen and those who today will be further strengthening friendship of the peoples of our countries. "

Ergashev Ikbolzhon Odiljonovich, the head of the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the United Arab Emirates, noted that the Uzbek people made a significant and important contribution to the victory over fascism in the Second World War.

"On the eve of the war, the population of the Republic of Uzbekistan was 6.5 million. Of these, 1.4 million took part in a bloody war," Ikbolzhon Odiljonovich said, recalling the price of victory for the Uzbek people.

After the performance of the ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions, everyone was invited to the stage to take part in the Immortal Regiment action and honor the memory of their relatives, whose portraits they held in their hands.
