Etihad Aviation Group launches four initiatives in the United Arab Emirates to mark the year of remembrance of the country's founding father.
Etihad Aviation Group has unveiled its extensive initiatives as part of the Sheikh Zayed Year.
The company's initiatives are based on four main themes of the year: wisdom, respect, "sustainability" and development. The initiatives themselves include:
- Launch of a humanitarian flight;
- Zayed theme aboard the A380;
- Program "Abu Dhabi Birdathon";
- Work with specialized educational institutions and campus.

Under the auspices of this initiative, Etihad Airways will launch a special cargo plane that will carry out humanitarian flights for charitable organizations during 2018. The first mission will be held in May. Etihad Airways will partner with Emirates Red Crescent, the Khalifa Foundation, and His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian Science Foundation to conduct these charity missions around the world.
Guests traveling on an Etihad Airways A380 can enjoy a wealth of content and services inspired by Sheikh Zayed, including thematic entertainment and a photo gallery.
Another interesting initiative will be the launch of a program inspired by the cultural heritage of Abu Dhabi. During 2018, a thousand Etihad Airways guests from around the world will be able to get acquainted with the cultural life of the capital, including visiting the founder’s memorial, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Wahat al Karama and the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
Bringing together themes of flight and sustainability, Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Environmental Protection Agency will host a bird protection event. Each partner will be able to track the flamingos assigned to him within the program on the Internet. This initiative aims to increase environmental awareness, which the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan emphasized.
The final component of the Etihad's Year of Zayed campaign, focused on human development, has two elements. Etihad will dedicate the building of its school to Sheikh Zayed. The building of the Etihad Training Academy adjacent to the corporate headquarters will be renamed the Zayed Campus in Abu Dhabi, and the Etihad Aviation Training Center in Al Ain will become the Zayed Campus in Al Ain.
In addition, Etihad will launch the Young Aviators program for students in the UAE. This initiative is designed to inspire children to engage in aviation. It will include tours of the Etihad headquarters and training academy in Abu Dhabi, as well as flight simulator classes.
