In Dubai, a Russian killer asks for clemency after 16 years in prison

A 60-year-old man asks for clemency after 16 years in a Dubai jail for the murder of a Russian woman.

A 60-year-old man of Uzbek descent asked the Dubai Court of First Instance to release him after he spent 16 years in prison for intentional murder and kidnapping.

In 2001, a man received a life sentence for the murder of a Russian woman. The woman fled from the man who forced her into prostitution. He, in turn, instructed the convict to return the Russian woman for a fee. The man organized the abduction, during which he strangled the woman and threw her body out of the apartment. The convict confessed to an attempted abduction, but denied the murder charge. Investigations and medical examination proved his guilt. The man’s employer also confessed to the abduction and was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Speaking before the court this Monday, the convict was in a wheelchair. He explained to the judges that he had health problems. He submitted a medical report to the court confirming that he was diagnosed with hepatitis B-C and other diseases.

According to the case file, the court had earlier rejected the man’s request for release last year after a complaint was filed with the prosecutor with a request for refusal.

The convicted person is also a defendant in cases of murder in prison and an attempt to smuggle prohibited substances into the prison. However, in the first case, the court pleaded not guilty, and in the second did not consider the charge for lack of evidence.

Section 45 of Federal Law (43) of 1992 allows individuals sentenced to life imprisonment to apply for release after 15 years in prison. The application is considered taking into account the behavior of the convict in prison. In this case, judges see an increased risk in a man’s behavior, which may impede his release. The decision will be made on January 22.
