In the United Arab Emirates will be fined for debts for communal

In the United Arab Emirates, utilities will impose fines for unpaid four-day water and electricity bills.

Residents of the United Arab Emirates will have to pay late fees for water and electricity bills - the Federal Electricity and Water Administration (FEWA) imposed a fine of 100 dirhams ($ 27) for unpaid utility bills.

According to a statement by a senior official of the Department, consumers with debts to FEWA will be provided with a grace period of four days from the moment they receive an SMS message on their cell phone.

Mohammed Saleh, the head of FEWA, said that after the grace period, the debtor will be required to pay a fine of 100 dirhams in addition to the main debt. Now the debtor has a maximum of four days to pay FEWA fines.

Earlier, FEWA in the Northern Emirates obliged persons with arrears to pay 100 dirhams for reconnecting to utility networks.

“This amount is automatically added to the consumer’s account, and not four days after the sms-notification on his mobile phone. As it turned out, some non-payers with home carers reconnected their house to the network so as not to pay 100 dirhams for reconnecting,” said Saleh.

"Debtors who reconnected houses bypassing the rules were disconnected from the utility networks, after inspectors found a huge difference between the declared and actual consumption of utility services. Thus, this additional fine is by no means an innovation," the official stressed. Consumers paid the same money to reconnect to the network, from now on this amount will automatically be included in the account. "

"If the consumer categorically refuses to pay, he will immediately be disconnected from the utility networks, but in the future, an additional charge for reconnecting will not be charged from him," Saleh explained.
