Thanks to Dubai police, drug smuggling to Europe has been stopped

The joint operation of the Dubai police and European law enforcement agencies allowed to stop the smuggling of a large batch of drugs.

In a number of European countries, smuggling of the largest consignment of drugs, the total cost of which was estimated by experts at 5 million euros (21.4 million dirhams), was suppressed.

This operation was carried out thanks to cooperation with the Dubai police. Joint work with European law enforcement agencies lasted more than a year and a half. In 7 countries: Germany, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Austria, about 80 suspects were detained who planned to supply about 2 tons of drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, amphetamines, etc.

Since May 2016, the Dubai police have worked closely with the German Customs Service, providing data on suspected drug dealers and drug shipments to Germany and other European countries.

Data transmitted by the police allowed the detention of 80 suspects, preventing the supply of several tons of drugs. According to Norbert Drud, head of the German customs service, the market value of the drugs was about 5 million euros.

“We want to thank the Dubai police for their contribution that enabled us to stop the illicit supply channel. We could not have achieved this without the information provided by the Dubai police. Dubai law enforcement officers have shown high professionalism. We look forward to further cooperation between our countries at various levels,” not only dealing with drugs, "added Drud.

Sometimes criminals used the UAE as a transshipment point for transporting drugs to Europe. Attackers hid drugs in various products, such as bananas, bags, boxes, sweets, electronics, and even Oxford dictionaries.
