And yet - summer!

The annual festival “Dubai Summer Surprises” this year will be held from June 21 to September 1 under the constant motto “A lot of fun for the little ones” and will be a real celebration for both children and all family members.

Dubai summer, hot and dusty, for quite a long time remained a boring and unattractive time of the year. But with the advent of Dubai Summer Surprises, fewer and fewer people are becoming the first plane to fly away from the sweltering heat. On the contrary, today many even plan to spend their holidays in Dubai in the summer, considering this period the most optimal.

Today, thanks to the exciting concept of the festival "Dubai Summer Surprises" (DLS), the summer months have become a kaleidoscope of fun and relaxation, and the tourist season in the summer has ceased to be called "low." The concept of heat is not taken into account at all. In summer, throughout the city - in shopping centers, on the streets and along busy motorways, on bridges and in parks - you can meet a cheerful bright yellow man with a smile from ear to ear. This is Modhesh - the festival’s sunny mascot. And that means the Dubai Summer Surprises has already begun.

During each DLS, Dubai completely changes its appearance. The long-awaited summer holidays begin at schools, and thousands of children know that this summer they will not have to sit around and be bored again. A lot of events, competitions, contests and quizzes, as well as a bunch of different prizes and gifts - this is what a summer festival is. To participate in festival events are attracted not only children, but also all family members - mothers, fathers, grandparents. This strengthens family ties, and no one recalls the problems of "fathers and children."

Organizers and Sponsors

The cooperation of various government agencies and institutions with the private sector contributes significantly to the ever-increasing success of the DLS. The festival is led by the DLS Organizing Committee and is widely advertised abroad, including in the Gulf countries. This year the next, ninth festival "Dubai Summer Surprises-2006" will be held. The uniform concept of DLS is based on the organization of 10 thematic weeks. Under the leadership of the organizers, which are government departments, the festival annually updates its theme. Each thematic week does not depend on the previous and subsequent, is distinguished by novelty and attractiveness, and is of great interest to children and adults.

Children in the festival will be able to show their intellectual abilities by participating in entertaining and educational games, and adults will be offered numerous sales in the city’s shops and the opportunity to win millions of dirhams in grand summer lotteries.

DLS-2006 will open on June 21 from the week of "Ice surprises", which is organized by the Dubai Department of Water and Electricity. Then thematic weeks in order of priority will be as follows:

- "Surprises of art", organized by the Department of Naturalization and Immigration from June 29 to July 5;
- "Surprises of international cuisine", organized by the Department of Tourism and Commercial Marketing from July 6 to 12;
- "Adventure surprises" organized by the Department of Health and Medical Services from July 13 to 19;
- "Cartoon surprises" organized by the Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry from July 20 to 26;
- "Surprises of nature", organized by the Dubai police from July 27 to August 2;
- “Surprises of knowledge”, organized by the Land Use Department from August 3 to 9;
- "Flower surprises" organized by the municipality of Dubai from August 10 to 16;
- "Surprises of ethnographic heritage", organized by the Office of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Economic Zones from August 17 to 23;
- Surprises "Back to School", organized by the Department of Economic Development from August 24 to September 1.

In addition to participating in 10 thematic weeks, other government departments and organizations in Dubai make their contribution to the organization of the summer festival. Among them: Dubai Media Association, Real Estate Department, Department of Civil Aviation, Dubai e-Government, Department of Islamic Affairs and Philanthropy, and the Department of Civil Defense.

Almost all the shopping centers in Dubai are participants in the Dubai Summer Surprises extensive cultural and entertainment program. While adults use the unique opportunity to make a holiday, and therefore very profitable, shopping, children enjoy games, participation in various kinds of creative workshops, competitions and contests. For guests from neighboring Gulf countries, the Dubai Summer Festival is also a great way to combine business meetings with a well-organized vacation. While the head of the family solves business problems, the family is engaged in the cultural-mass program of the DLS.

The festival is the visiting card of the summer!

Over the past years, DLS festivals have become a serious incentive for the development of trade and tourism in the previously unpopular summer season. The success of the event is evidenced by the sharp increase in the number of festival guests and the level of sales. 600 thousand guests came to the first DLS in 1998, and the sales volume amounted to 850 million dirhams. In 2005, 1.51 million guests were already recorded, who spent a total of 1.72 billion dirhams.

During the summer festival, hotels, restaurants, car rental companies, shops offer city guests unique packages of services, which in addition to favorable prices include a variety of promotions and offers, lottery tickets or discount coupons are included. A group of shopping centers in Dubai hosts an annual summer raffle for millions of dirhams. This festival will give everyone the opportunity to participate in the grand lotteries and win expensive BMW cars, daily cash prizes in the amount of 100,000 dirhams. Lottery tickets will be coupons that will be issued for every 200 dirhams spent on purchases in any of the shopping centers in Dubai. Buy and win!

Do not forget to visit with your children the "Modhesha Entertainment Town", which operates every summer under the roof of the Dubai World Trade Center. In 2005, over 30 thousand guests visited it. This place is a celebration of joy and childhood. Here, you and your children will not only be entertained and amused from the heart, but also taught a lot that you did not know how to do before - to make airplanes, sculpt and draw, dance and sing. In general, everything is in the best traditions of the palaces of pioneers and schoolchildren of Soviet times with their circles and sections, if someone else remembers what it is. Summer is coming, and with it the Festival!
