Russia Day celebrated in Dubai

On June 9, 2009 in Dubai at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation organized a state reception on the occasion of the celebration of Russia Day. About 300 people took part in it. Among the invited guests were the Minister of Energy of the United Arab Emirates Mohammed bin Daen al-Hamli, Sheikh Juma bin Maktum bin Juma al-Maktum, Sheikh Maktum bin Khasher al-Maktum, heads of government institutions in Dubai, representatives of major business circles, the consular corps, compatriots. According to the old Russian tradition, the main guest was offered bread and salt. The national anthems of the UAE and the Russian Federation were performed.

Welcoming remarks were delivered by the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Dubai and the Northern Emirates Sergey Krasnogor. He noted the progressive nature of the development of bilateral relations, emphasizing that the visit of the Vice President, Prime Minister of the UAE, the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, to Moscow this spring, his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin marked a qualitatively new stage on the path to intensifying Russian-Emirate cooperation, which is especially relevant in the current difficult conditions of the global financial and economic crisis.

During the reception, guests had the opportunity to watch documentaries about Russia, listen to Russian classical and chamber music, get acquainted with folklore, national cuisine, crafts, works of art and applied art.
