Killer whales spotted off the coast of the United Arab Emirates

Tourists noticed killer whales in the bays of the Musandam Peninsula off the coast of the United Arab Emirates.

Dubai, UAE. A killer whale with a cub was spotted last weekend in the bays of the Musandam Peninsula (Oman). The videos were taken by tourists as an orca swam past their boat. The length of the adult was about 9 meters, the calf was about six.

“The killer whales were very curious,” said a UK tourist. “They swam to the boat and flirted with the tourists, tapping their tails on the water. In the past, I saw many whales in open water, but I met killer whales for the first time.” The meeting took place 300 meters from the coast and lasted 15-20 minutes.

As explained in the tourist company that organizes diving tours in Musandam, the killer whale belongs to the dolphin family, but at the same time they are carnivorous mammals with large teeth, and their length exceeds 5 meters. Therefore, swimming next to them is strongly discouraged. It is worth recalling that previously killer whales were spotted in the Persian Gulf, in the Abu Dhabi region, in March 2015.
